Is my Lovable app secure?

Short answer: maybe. Lovable's built-in security scan helps, but it can show a green tick while your data is still readable by strangers. Here's how to check the things that actually leak, in about 10 minutes.

In August 2026 the security company Reeve scanned 30,998 live vibe-coded apps. Of the Supabase-backed apps it could check, 57% (2,096 of 3,680) let a stranger read at least one table without a login (Reeve report, Reddit post). The good news: the most common holes are easy to spot from the outside.

1. Is a secret key in your JavaScript?

Open your live app, press F12, open the Sources (or Network) tab and search the loaded .js files for sk_live, sk-proj, service_role, sb_secret and AKIA. Anything you find is public — anyone can copy it and spend your money or read your database.

Fix prompt for Lovable/Cursor:

Find every secret API key used in frontend code or in variables prefixed VITE_ / NEXT_PUBLIC_. Move each call that needs it into a Supabase Edge Function (or API route) that reads the key from a server-side secret. List every key I must rotate because it was already public.

Then rotate the key in the provider dashboard. Removing it from the code does not revoke copies that are already out there.

2. Can strangers read your Supabase tables?

Your Supabase anon (publishable) key is in your site on purpose. That's fine — if Row Level Security (RLS) is on and the policies are right. The classic mistake is a policy like USING (true) that the AI added to "fix" a permission error. RLS shows as enabled, but everyone can read every row.

See our Supabase RLS check guide for the exact test and fix.

3. Are .env or .git files downloadable?

Visit https://your-app/.env and https://your-app/.git/HEAD. If you see text instead of your app or a 404, your secrets or source code are public. Delete them from the deployed output and rotate every key in them.

4. Security headers

Missing headers (HSTS, Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options) are rarely the reason an app gets breached, but they're cheap to add in your hosting config and close off clickjacking and some script-injection attacks.

VibeGuard checks what a visitor's browser can see: keys in your bundle, common Supabase tables (row counts only, never data), exposed files and headers. It can't test logged-in access, server code or storage buckets. It's a smoke alarm, not a full audit.
